The Horticultural Society
The show is held annually on the last Saturday in September. The exhibition of flowers, fruit, vegetables, baking, preserves, art, photography and handicrafts is held in the Village Hall opening at 3 p.m.
Exhibitors must live within a five mile radius of Willingham by Stow and produce must be grown in the area. We hope that you will continue to support this friendly village tradition and look forward to seeing your entries in the next show.

The 80th Annual Willingham Horticultural Show
The show was held, as always, on the last Saturday of September on a beautiful sunny day. The Village Hall looked very colourful with all the exhibits of fruit, veg, flowers, art and craft work and baking. This was despite the long hot and dry summer which made growing conditions very difficult There was a very good turnout of visitors to admire everyone’s hard work.
Helen Panter, the Show Chairman warmly welcomed the visitors and introduced the President, Margaret Smith. Margaret thanked all participants – whether as exhibitors, as judges, as organisers or as visitors. She said how good it was to see so many people on what was an important occasion for the show – its 80th anniversary. The Show was started just after the end of World War 2 by the WI. The occasion is going to be marked by the planting of an oak tree on the playing field. Margaret then invited Dr Dan Lane from Willingham Surgery to say a few words and present all the prizes.
Dr Lane commended everyone on staging such a good show and said that it was lovely to see so much support from the local community. This community feeling is so important to people’s health and wellbeing. Judith Tudberry was the winner of the Aggregate Cup for Adults with Carl Gloss as runner up. Henry Bates was the winner of the Junior Aggregate Cup with younger sister, Martha, as runner-up.
The committee would particularly like to thank the leaders of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who put in a tremendous amount of work to make such lovely exhibits. Equally, the staff of Sturton School must be thanked: the children’s Art and Fabric work is always such a colourful part of the Show. The raffle and auction were well supported; many thanks go to Mick Bates for, once again, acting as auctioneer. Funds raised mean that the show will continue into its 81st year in a healthy position.
